American Professor Visits All Saints Church All Saints parish
church, formerly dedicated to St John the Baptist and with a chantry chapel to
Mary the Virgin, has featured in a research study by Professor Stephen Mc
Cluskey of the University of West Virginia. Professor
McCluskey, a historian of science, is over here for 18 months as a research
fellow of the University of Leicester. With the help
of his wife, Constance and masters degree student, Serena Frederick , he is
carrying out field work to determine how astronomy was used in medieval times to
align churches in this country. To qualify for
this study, churches had to appear in the Domesday Book or have been dedicated
by 1530 to St. John, St. Andrew, Mary or All Saints. M.H. Scout and Guide Headquarters AGM At the AGM of Sapcote

to Take a Hard Line The Accommodation, B & B, Bed and Breakfast, intends to actively pursue the prosecution
of offenders, who park on yellow lines, dropped kerbs and the bus stop in front
of the Coop, dump rubbish in the ditches or fail to clean up after their dogs. Chief Superintendent
Helm will attend Sapcote Accommodation, B & B, Bed and Breakfast, meeting on Thursday, November 7, at 7.30
pm in the pavilion. At the last
meeting Graham Percival was co-opted to the council by a unanimous vote. David Hemming
decided to stand down as vice-chairman as he would not be seeking re-election to
the council in 2003. Chairman, Mike Lee said he was sorry to lose Mr Hemming and
thanked him for his work and support. Councillor Berendina Williams is the new

Sapcote Newspost undertook his 440 yard stint through the centre of Stamford,
Lincolnshire on June 29. Cheered on by
family and friends and accompanied by two police runners and 20 motorcycle
outriders, he found it "an extraordinary experience - everything stops for
you!" Tony was
nominated to take part by a representative of the relay's sponsors, Cadbury's,
for his work with Alan Taylor raising more than £4000 in five years for
Macmillan Cancer Relief. Sponsorship has
poured in since the event and Tony now has a further £859 to present to the
charity. Kathryne
Dunne (18) of New Walk, Sapcote carried the baton over the same distance in
Southam, Warwickshire on July 16. Kathryn, who
was nominated for her work with Hinckley Young Carers Group, declared it to be
"an unforgettable experience." M.H. Deborah's Teas Deborah Watts of the
Bungalow, Donkey Lane, Sapcote has thanked everyone, who came along this summer
on three occasions to sample her home-made cakes over tea or coffee. Sapcote
Methodist Church Building Fund and Cancer Research will benefit from the £258
raised. M.H. Langdale House Cream Teas Staff and residents
of Langdale House always enjoy watching the Sapcote carnival parade as it passes
down Church Street. This year they
were also able to welcome some of the crowd into the residential home for cream
teas and a sale of second hand goods. Proceeds boosted the Residents Comforts
Fund by £48. M.H. Age Concern Luncheon Club Funds raised at a
Christmas concert by Fosse Brass Ensemble at Sapcote Club were used by Age
Concern coordinator, Beryl Hing, to provide strawberry teas for twenty senior

and Rita Giles have served tea on three occasions this summer. Each time

months, local Weight Watchers have been busy knitting squares for the world's
longest scarf appeal by Rainbows. They have been
greatly helped by non Weight Watcher, Albert Dowell (61) who having retired from
the hosiery industry, decided to take up the hobby. Albert has knitted 180
squares of the 600 now completed. Leader,
Berendina Williams (01455 273466) has put out a request for any unwanted double
knitting wool, so that she can keep Albert's needles clicking. The sudden
death of neighbour, Mark Cheshire (39) from meningitis moved Berendina Williams

free, fun and open to all. More information is available from Rachel Reynolds
on 0116 258 8860. M.H. Recreation Ground Management Committee Sapcote Recreation
Ground Management Committee is seeking new members. The
constitution of this committee entitles any village organisation to be
represented. Sadly most do not take up their entitlement and the present
committee is made up of representatives of some sports clubs plus independent
members and trustees. Following
recent resignations more volunteers either from village organisations or
independent are needed if the high standard of the recreation ground, which
caters for a variety of leisure pursuits for all ages, is to be maintained. The Sapcote
Recreation Ground Management Committee have placed a commemorative plaque on the
Golden Jubilee memorial stone, which it has obtained on behalf of the people of
Sapcote. Bardon Aggregates donated the three ton stone, cut from granite in
Croft quarry. In response to a concern by English Heritage about damage to the

verge at the corner of Park Road and Hinckley Road. M.H. Bell Ringers Celebrate the Jubilee The bells of All
