 Around The Crossroads

The Old Forge

The Cross; the old forge at the corner of Church Street and Hinckley Road circa 1911. The Club was built in 1910. Note the old cottage at the side of the Club. The Corner Shop was at that time the Post Office. The Mounting Stone being used as a seat is still there today.

The Crossroads

The Post Office over the road closed in the mid 1950's. It is now the Corner Shop. Note the finger post in the road. Note also the street lamp attached to the electricity pole on the left. Taken in the 1940's. The car apparently belonged to George Taylor. The Forge - on the left - became a shop.

Here you can clearly see the cobbled street which may well still be under the modern tarmac. The children played safely in the street.
The Post Office
Sapcote Post Office where the corner shop is now on the cross.
Corner of Leicester Road and Church Street, where the Co-op is now. A Fish and Chip shop stood here until the 1960's.

Sapcote Chip Shop was pulled down to build the new Co-Op. This photo was taken just before it was demolished.

These houses were left standing after the Chip Shop was demolished until the Co-op was built in the late 60s. (Photo taken in 1962) The Corner Shop Today
