changes to M69 Junction
|

Would they build a by pass for Sapcote before they altered the junction and where would it go? Would it be safe for your children to cross the road by the Co-op? For anyone living along Hinckley Road and Leicester Road it would create more traffic difficulties. If you want to object to this happening please do it now, before it gets off the ground. We may need to hold a public meeting and lobby together if this appears to be going to the next stage.... Editorial:- M Hextall Junction review- From Hickley Times CALLS to open up the M69 Sapcote Road junction to and from Coventry could be given serious consideration in the future, Highways Agency chiefs have revealed. People living in Burbage want the motorway junction near Sapcote to be made accessible from both directions to relieve the pressure on village roads. The Highways Agency, the Government body responsible for works to major routes, has no immediate plans to upgrade the junction but Agency chiefs say a public consultation on the M69 is on the cards. No date has been set for the motorway review but the Agency has confirmed that it will be considering both the Sapcote and A5 junctions when it is carried out. Mr Ronald Collyer, who lives in Winchester Drive, Burbage, said: “Surely, it is imperative that the lifting of restrictions on Junction 2 are implemented as soon as possible, to ease the traffic situation for those of us who, at present, need to traverse the village to and from the M69 Junction 1 roundabout?” The Highways Agency has been working with the Borough Council to draw up a strategy for developing the A5 corridor, which involves a series of planned highway improvements. Agency chiefs say their next move will be to devise a route management strategy for the section of the A5 between the M1 and the A38 and that the M69 situation will not be addressed until that is completed. “As part of the A5 route management strategy, consultation will take place with local authorities and communities, as well as users, to ensure a wide range of issues is taken fully into account,” said a spokesman for the Highways Agency. “It will result in a 10-year strategy and a three-year action plan to enhance the route. “Further route management strategies are planned in the future, including one for the M69. “We do not have a date for this but it will encompass not only the junctions at the M6 and the M1 but also the A5 and Sapcote junctions. “Unfortunately, until the route management strategy study is completed, we cannot consider lifting the present restriction at Junction 2.” |
