Community care - From Hinckley Times

DETAILED plans have now been submitted nearly two years after go-ahead was given for the principle of an over-55s community care complex on the site of the former equestrian centre at The Limes in Sapcote.

Through agents Savage, Hayward, chartered architects and surveyors of Hinckley, Leicester property developer Meldyne Ltd is applying for virtual “rubber stamping” for 90 bungalows, an 80 bed care home and community facilities on the 14.5 acre site off Hinckley Road.

Mr Phil Clarke, chief planning officer for Blaby District Council, does not expect the plan to be considered before May at the earliest.

John Prescott has cast aside county council opposition to allow a £10 million retirement village on greenfield land in Leicestershire - and TV star Bill Maynard is set to be its first resident. The county council says the Secretary of State's decision - taken after a four-day public inquiry - undermines its policies to protect the countryside from development. The committee disregarded the advice of its own officers who reported that it went against Blaby's Local Plan and the county council's Structure Plan. The decision was challenged by the county council who argued it would "drive a coach and horses through established planning policy" and make development of other greenfield sites difficult to resist.
