The Rams Head Beer Festival @ the Red Lion Sapcote

WHAT A HUGE SUCCESS, WE RAISED £1200.00 FOR 3 CHARITIES

Why the Rams head?

Sapcote is a small Leicestershire village. It was mentioned in the Domesday Book as Scepecote. Its name came from the Anglo-Saxon Scēapcot meaning "shed or enclosure for sheep". Well simply putting it,  you can't have sheep without a RAM hence the Rams head beer festival.

The festival was put together by a number of local Sapcote folk including The landlord and landlady of the Red Lion itself, Andy & Caroline Jackson, Paul & Judith Tuffin, Mike Walker & Jennifer Birkby.

If you would like to contribute to next years event, please don't hesitate to contact us

The breweries that were represented at the festival were all distinctive in their own way.

The beers vary in taste, colour and complexity.

All these different characteristics are imparted through the amount of variants,

that are present in the environments surrounding the breweries.

There are bitters, Porters, Ciders & Perry

The Rams Head Beer Festival

From a discussion in the Red Lion between passionate beer fans and community minded people, Sapcote’s first ever beer festival was created. As the night drew to a close the conversation turned to the desire to create a festival that would raise money for local groups, provide events for all ages in the village as well as enjoying the wonderful varieties of liquid known as beer.

The festival was opened on Saturday lunch time with the church bells and town crier lending their tones to the proceedings. The afternoon saw a time for the family with child entertainers, face painting, balloon modeling, bouncy power slides and crazy golf to mention only a few. There was a special children’s tuck shop and plenty of fresh cooked food.

The day came to a magnificent end with the fabulous Dr Busker (ADULTS ONLY). Described as “the last Victorian Pub pianist” those who enjoyed an evening in his company will come back time and time again. Dr Busker and beer go hand in hand for a perfect evening.  www.doctorbusker.com

Sunday was a more relaxed affair with an Irish Session from 1:30pm during lunch, many came along with there own instrument. It proved to be a great afternoon
