Sapcote carnival is no more: As the summer approaches children must be wondering when carnival day is.

Unfortunately there will be no carnival in Sapcote this year. Don't ask me why I don't know, apart from I do believe there is no one to organize it. Organizing an event like this takes a lot of time and preparation, lets hope a band of carnival enthusiasts get together for next year.

Carnival Day 2000
This was another great success with perfect weather and takings of £4255 for village groups and local charities. TONY GRIGGS (Chairman/Treasurer) and MARGARET HEXTALL (Secretary) could not have been more grateful for the involvement and support of so many people from the village and much further field.

As in previous years, money raised from the day will go to village organizations and charities. M.H.

Town Crier, JOE. G. DAVID and granddaughter TAMMY, lead the parade. Queen, CHARLOTTE WALLACE, Princesses, EMMA BOX, JADE COLWELL, SHANTEL STIRK and page boy, GEORGE PRICE.
'Heartlink' Collectors. Sapcote W.I. 'Seven Brides for Seven Brothers'.

They feel sure that it will be sadly missed by those groups and charities who have participated over the years. The gross total raised over the past six years alone was £18,700. The village can ill afford to let this redistribution of funds be lost.

The work has its rewards, knowing that the monies redistributed make a difference, the delight on the childrens' faces and the satisfaction of a job well done after a successful Carnival Day.

As a matter of interest, Barwell Carnival Committee is made up of nine officers, including two secretaries and eighteen other committee members.

Sapcote does not require this but it does need a minimum of three officers to orchestrate the volunteer element of the committee.
