HELP WITH COPY AND PASTE

Copy and paste is a very useful way of taking information from one piece of software to another.

This Guide will show you how to copy and paste text and pictures. You can copy text from the internet to use in word processors, or to paste into an E-Mail. This can save lots of time.

Remember, the difference between right and left click is important here. See what happens when you click the left hand side of the mouse….then the right….

1. First you must highlight the text you want to copy. To do this move the pointer to the start of the writing you want to copy. Then, hold down the left hand button and drag (move) the mouse to the end of the text you want. This text is now highlighted.

It will look like this

2. To copy this text you will need to place your mouse pointer over the writing you have just highlighted, and right-click on the mouse. This will bring up a little menu, and you can left-click on the word copy.

3. You now need to get to the program you want to paste the text into.

If you have finished with the programme or page you were copying from, press close in the top right corner of the screen.

If you have not yet finished with the page or programme, but need to copy to somewhere else, click minimise in the top right corner of the screen.

4. To paste into E-Mail you need to log on and choose to create a new E-Mail. If you are not sure how to do this please see our guide on sending RM Easymail.

4. To paste the text you have just copied point at a blank space where you want the writing to be, right-click for a little menu. On the menu left-click on paste. Your words should now appear.

You have successfully used copy and paste.

To copy and paste a picture is the same as above, but you don't have to highlight the picture....just right click on it.
Pictures can be pasted into WORD but cannot be pasted into school E-Mail documents.

If you want to keep a picture on it's own, put your mouse over it, then right-click, you can choose save picture as, and save it into the folders on the computer, or a disc.
